Two tone shoes
I visited Micam Footwear show last week and saw a new brand, Italigente Milano, presenting very nice shoes. The collection was inspirited by a story from late 1920’s, a young tenor is leaving La Scala for a guest appearance at the Metropolitan in New York. The Italian singer travelled 1st class on upper deck across the Atlantic – everybody noticed the charisma around this personality spending his time in the luxury saloons on the great ship. The journey to America in those years took eight days. Time for reflection and relax, neither stress nor jet-lag, just travelling in pace of time itself. The shoes he wore were hand made. It took an artisan shoemaker eight days to make a pair. The shoemaker handed over five pairs of shoes to the young star, especially made for this trip – each style came in different colours – the exquisite leather was hand cut and colours were combined in a way no one had seen before. The two-tone coloured shoe was born and became a must have item instantly. The fashion spread from New York to Hollywood among actors and businessmen and became the look of the 1930’s. But the original look was created in the stylish city of Milan and echoes the passion for quality that never goes out of style. I liked this concept very much, and saw the brand featured in the Spring Summer Fashion Guide of Uomo Vogue. It will be interesting to follow the Italigente brand into the future. They certainly got a good start. |
